The Well Tempered Kitchen

The Well Tempered Kitchen

The Well Tempered Kitchen was series of acoustic cooking-performances in selected villages of the Weinviertel, Lower Austria, during May/June 2004 on the occasion of Weinviertel Festival '04.

The serialisation of everyday life is the main topic of The Well-Tempered Kitchen, a live-performance pointing at such "trivial" situations as the kitchens of a small town.

During the performance the artists of alien productions cook a typical regional menu using traditional recipes. A computer-controlled kitchen-blender-orchestra plays the basic rhythm patterns. Acoustic cuisine or culinary music leads to a well-tempered result which is consumed by artists together with the public.

The technical requirements for this performance were extremely complex - even by alien-standards. The ideas was to create a fully functional touring-kitchen: rugged, highly modular and equipped with all appropriate power supplies, grease-resistant microphones and other audio devices.

The entire design and construction was done in-house. The performance tables were equipped with 2 gooseneck mics, 2 quad-d.i.s, 4 contact mics, audio and midi patchbays, multicores and heavy duty power connectors. The mixers were amplified using 6 contact mics and transported in custom cases. The sound system and projections were adapted according to the venues dimensions.
